Pin-up illustrator Alberto Vargas moved to the United States from Peru in 1916. During the 1920s until the 1930s, he was a house artist of the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York. His works known as "Varga Girls" circulated in Esquire magazine in the 1940s then inspired WWII aircraft nose art. From the 1960s Vargas painted for playboy magazine until the 1970s. His interpretation of sensuality was always subtle yet striking but never blatant. His work was typically a combination of watercolor and airbrush.  He is considered one of the best pin-up illustrators, and his mastery of the airbrush artistry acknowledges the founding of the Vargas Award, the highest achievement in the community of airbrush artistry.
